Windmill Contractors Ltd was founded at the end of the Second World War by Johanus Verbeeten, who left his native Holland with his English wife and young family to settle in Crawley. Always a family orientated business, two of Johanus’ sons – Frank and Matthew (Dick) – joined forces with him to help grow the business. Once Johanus had retired, Frank & Dick developed the firm to provide a high quality of ground maintenance and Civil Engineering works as well as continuing Johanus’ passion of plant growing and retail.
As the company grew it established a reputation in West Sussex, East Sussex and Surrey, undertaking contracts for several local authorities and other major businesses. In 2003, following many years working closely with the existing directors, David Bolton and Adrian Verbeeten assumed control of the company and have continued to expand the range of services available, whilst still focusing on the core business values.
Windmill’s success is attributable to its commitment to quality, despite facing a major loss with the passing of Dick Verbeeten in 2013. The continuity of the family remains with Johanus’ great grandsons, Jacob Bolton & Jordan Bolton, both joining Windmill to manage all online activities and expand the business further.
